On 5 June 2025, a fundraiser for Irish language youth club Glór na Móna took place in Rosie O'Gray's, New York. Purpose was to raise funds for a new sensory unit at the group's West Belfast premises.
With the help of numerous friends, the Irish Echo underwrote the $9,700 hospitality expenses of the evening — which had been generously discounted by Rosie's proprietor Mike Carty.
Our thanks to supporting donors who joined us in reaching that sum so that all the ticket income could go direct to Glór na Móna: Cillian Ó Brádaigh, Shaun Kelly, Mike Breen, Seán O'Dowd, Tom Griffith, Domhnall Ó Catháin, Eoin Ó hÓgáin, Ciarán Strong and Aoife Ní Mhuirí.
We were also pleased to see our efforts complemented by the Irish American Partnership which made a very generous contribution of $10,000 to Glór na Móna on the evening.
This was the first-ever fundraiser for a Belfast Irish language project in New York — it's our hope those who contributed will get to visit the new hall planned by Glór na Móna in the not-so-distant future.
Míle buíochas libh uile.
