One successive days, Lisa O’Rourke and Aoife O’Rourke, have won boxing gold in the 80k and 75k divisions in the 2026 European Boxing Elite Championships being held in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Lisa defeated Anastasiia Demurchian of Russia in a split 4-1 decision on Thursday, while Aoife followed up this afternoon with a unanimous verdict over Turkey's Busra Isildar, in what was her successful title defense.
The sisters from Castlerea, Co. Roscommon, are multiple medal winners. Aoife, 29, has five previous gold medals from the Europeans Championships, European Games and World Championships. Lisa, 24, has one World gold medal and one European gold medal as well as two under-22 European gold medals.
