More Irish Americans have been rowing in behind the campaign of NY State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli as the Democratic Primary date — 23 June — nears.
This is the first competitive primary for the office of Comptroller in over a decade, with two competitors seeking to unseat the incumbent in the race to manage one of the biggest pension funds in the U.S.
According to Fox5 New York, "Thomas DiNapoli is running on his long tenure and support from labor unions, while challengers Raj Goyle and Drew Warshaw are campaigning on new leadership and progressive priorities."
However, Irish America remains firmly in the DiNapoli corner in recognition of the Comptroller's groundbreaking support for the Irish peace process.
During DiNapoli's tenure, New York State has made $111 million in private equity commitments in Northern Ireland, including a $50 million commitment that closed in 2023. During the St Patrick's festivities, the Comptroller pledged to continue that support during this term.
Responding to an Irish Echo endorsement of the Comptroller, Irish Echo readers have been signalling their support for the DiNapoli campaign.
Among the most recent to signal their support online are prominent peace process supporters Brian Dwyer of New York and Fr. Seán McManus of Washington D.C. as well as TWU International President John Samuelsen.
