Wilde Card Eve

It's the Irish warm-up before the Oscars

And in Los Angeles Thursday evening Irish actress Eve Hewson will be honored at the U.S.-Ireland Alliance’s annual Oscar Wilde Awards with the Wilde Card Award.

The event will be held at Bad Robot, the Santa Monica production company of J.J. Abrams and Katie McGrath.

Fellow Irish actresses, Kerry Condon and Jessie Buckley, will also be honored at what will be the 17th annual awards named in honor of Oscar Wilde.

In addition to individual ward winners there will be special recognition for the raft of Irish Oscar nominations in various categories. The Academy Awards will take place this Sunday, March 12.

Trina Vargo, president of the US-Ireland Alliance, said: “The Wilde Card has been used to bring
attention to rising talent who may not yet be a household name, but who we expect will be. The first such award was presented in 2010 to a young Saoirse Ronan.

Vargo said that popular Irish band, The Coronas, will perform at the event. 

Hackman Capital Partners and The MBS Group return as lead sponsors of the event. Founder and
Chairman Michael Hackman owns numerous studios and recently acquired Irish studios, Troy and
Ardmore. and is building and is building a new studio in Greystones, County Wicklow. Screen Ireland and Northern Ireland Screen also return as sponsors. 

In a release in advance of the awards gathering Enterprise Ireland noted that Enterprise Ireland companies "will play a starring role at the prestigious US-Ireland Alliance’s 2023 Oscar Wilde Awards taking place on Thursday, March 9th in Los Angeles."

A statement added: "Leading Enterprise Ireland companies attending the event, which brings together the very best of Irish and American arts and culture, include Windmill Lane, ShinaWiL and Screen Scene." 

Speaking about its support of the Oscar Wilde Awards and wider creative industry, Enterprise Ireland CEO, Leo Clancy said: “The success of Irish companies and individuals in the creative arena is a testament to the immense, strong talent emerging from the Irish digital entertainment sector here. 

"Enterprise Ireland will continue to support our client companies in driving Ireland’s reputation as a centre of excellence for innovation, unique IP content creation, merchandising and licensing.”
