Walsh makes Kilmacud debut

Galway footballer Shane Walsh made his debut for Dublin club Kilmacud Crokes as they beat Templeogue Synge Street 3-25 to 1-6 in the third round of the Dublin senior football championship at Parnell Park on Sunday. At one stage it looked like Walsh’s home club Kilkerrin/Clonberne would object to the transfer, but it went through last week. Walsh, who is a student in Dublin, admitted that he made his mind up that he was going to cut down on travelling after the Connacht final. He said: “It was probably the four weeks after the Connacht final when I had the most time to think about it and come to a decision then. Was there ever going to be a good time to say it to your club? No, definitely not.’’

Meanwhile it looks like Wicklow are going to appoint former Armagh forward Oisin McConville as their senior football manager. McConville is currently managing the Inniskeen Grattans club in Monaghan. He will replaces Alan Costello and Gary Duffy, who took over in Wicklow when Colin Kelly stepped away halfway through the year.
