The events across the U.S. are part of a global celebration of St. Brigid’s Day, "highlighting the talent, creativity and contribution of the women who have shaped both Ireland and the world. Through next week, festivals are taking place in London, Paris, Brussels, Berlin, Shanghai, Sydney and Wellington, amongst many other cities."

Continued the release: "Brigid being the matron saint of poets, as well as of Ireland, poetry is a particular focus of our celebrations.

"The Embassy in Washington is partnering with Poetry Ireland & the African American Irish Diaspora Network for ‘The Fire Gilders’, marking the start of Black History Month, as well as Brigid’s Day.

"The Consulate in San Francisco will be presenting a special tribute to the late Eavan Boland, one of Ireland’s most brilliant poets and a celebrated Stanford lecturer.

"Ambassador Daniel Mulhall, meanwhile, will post readings of Irish and American women poets on his and the Embassy’s twitter feed every day through the month of February.

"The Department of Foreign Affairs has also collaborated with MoLI - Museum of Literature Ireland, to commission ‘Three Poems for Brigid’, a series of short online films showcasing an Irish poet and a spoken word performer, and based around one of the three aspects of Brigid as the triple goddess of Poetry, Healing, and Craftwork."

Separately, the Irish Cultural Center and McClelland Library in Phoenix, Arizona, is celebrating St. Brigid's Day though with restrictions due to Covid-19.
