An Irish gift

A permanent gift plaque from the People of Ireland was presented for installation at the Washington Monument on Wednesday, September 18. It may very well be the final plaque that is allowed permanent display at the Washington Monument. The effort was spearheaded by Senator Mark Daly of Kerry. U.S. Secretary of Interior David Bernhardt was on hand to accept the plaque which was presented by Irish Minister of State Kevin Moran. Attending were Irish Ambassador Daniel Mulhall and Colonel James Tierney of the Fighting 69th. Mike and Sara Carroll were presented with a replica plaque on behalf of the Council for American Ireland Relations, an organization that assisted with funding for the permanent exhibit. Pictured (l-r) Ambassador Mulhall, John Samuelsen, International President of the Transportation Workers Union, Colonel James Tierney, and Sara Carroll.
