Job Description? Office of emergency management sergeant, we assist all residents of Yonkers going through an emergency. Whether it be a house fire, flood, heating/cooling emergency, water shut off, civil vacate and make sure they always have a place to stay for the nights of their emergency. We also assist the police department with major crime scenes by setting up lighting and a a setting for command posts to help in their investigation. If there is a major emergency in Yonkers, Yonkers OEM I am there.
Why I chose this career? Love the ability to help people when they are having one of their worst days of their lives. If there is something I can do to make their lives a little easier during their tragedy, me and my team are more than happy to do it.
Proudest moment of my career? There are many moments I love, but I wouldn't be able to pinpoint one. I love being able to reunite a resident with their beloved pet after a chaotic fire and seeing them be able to just be happy for a few mins after just going through a horrible event.
Something people would be surprised to know about me... I love to bartend and have held a bartending position down at The Burren Public House in Woodlawn for the past few years and that’s how I spend my Monday nights off from the chaos.
Biography: Brendan Meaney was born and raised in the Bronx in the Woodlawn section, just a stone's throw from Yonkers. Brendan went to high school at Fordham Prep where they instilled a life of service to other into him and that's when he started working with Yonkers OEM and have loved it ever since day one.
