John Kiely is staying on as Limerick senior hurling manager for at least one more year, with the county board confirming that Kiely has the option of another year thereafter. It will be Kiely’s 11th campaign in charge of the Treaty hurlers. He succeeded TJ Ryan back in Sept. 2016, and went on to spectacularly revitalise Limerick’s fortunes. Last July’s win over Galway secured Limerick sixth All-Ireland title under his management. Kiely has also led Limerick to eight Munster titles and four National Leagues. But life is not as sweet for football in Limerick with Billy Lee saying he is moving on after three years and accused the County Board of a lack of support to the management team and players. Lee, who previously had success at club level with Newcastle West, led Limerick to promotion from Division 3 in 2025 and they also qualified for Tailteann Cup final last year where they were beaten by Kildare. But this year the Limerick footballers were relegated back to Division 4.
Galway has set a deadline of Sept. 18 whereby clubs can nominate a new football manager to replace Padraic Joyce. In a statement, the County Board said that nominations may be submitted through clubs, with the consent of the proposed candidate. Since Joyce ended his seven-year tenure, a number of names have been linked to the Galway job, including former Dublin manager Jim Gavin, Galway under 20 manager Kevin Johnson, former Mayo manager Stephen Rochford and ex Galway player John Divilly.
