On Sunday Ireland claimed two silver medals on the final day of the World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam with Fiona Murtagh shining in the single sculls, and Mags Cremen returning to the podium alongside Konan Pazzaia in the mixed double sculls. On Friday Cremen and Zoe Hyde took gold in the women’s double sculls final and Team Ireland.

Ireland’s men’s field hockey team finished 10th at the Hockey World Cup after a high-scoring 6-3 defeat to New Zealand in Wavre, Belgium on Friday last. Mark Tumulty’s side, who missed out on the knockout stage after a defeat to Spain in their final group game, were vying for a 9th place classification against the Black Sticks. Meanwhile the Irish women’s team ended their World Cup campaign with a win over South Africa to finish in 13th place overall. The winning goal in Amstelveen came in the first quarter, when player of the match Niamh Carey found her twin sister Michelle free in the circle to break the deadlock.

Legendary NFL coach Bill Belichick enjoyed victory in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic at Aviva Stadium on Saturday as his University of North Carolina side defeated Texas Christian University 15-10. It was a damp afternoon in Dublin 4 and there were a lot of unsold seats at the famous Lansdowne Road venue. The teams for the 2027 Classic are already confirmed — University of Pittsburgh and Wisconsin.
