For most Americans of Irish descent, locating ancestors in Ireland requires first researching in the U.S. with the goal of finding the information necessary to conduct a successful search in Ireland.
On this Saturday morning, Sept. 19, Freeport Memorial Library,144 West Merrick Road, Freeport, NY, the Irish History Forum’s guest speaker, genealogist Susan McKee, will instruct attendees on how to focus research to successfully work back through the generations in America and navigate the wealth of information the research may generate. People will also learn how history and geography affected the records created and whether and where those records might still exist.
Susan McKee, M.A., is a genealogist specializing in Irish family research. She was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland. Now a U.S. citizen and resident of Seattle, WA, Susan is a member of the Seattle Genealogical Society, where she facilitates its monthly Irish Special Interest Group. She also writes for Irish Roots magazine and has presented seminars on tracing Irish ancestors from America to Ireland for the Seattle Irish Festival.
