Cavan-born golfer Leona Maguire equalled her best finish at a Women's Irish Open but was unable to get close enough to threaten leader Casandra Alexander, who survived an early stumble to win by three strokes at the K Club on Sunday. Maguire began the day seven strokes behind the South African but high on confidence after a stunning nine under par round of 63 on Saturday in which she shot up the leaderboard and into the penultimate grouping for Round 4. Maguire did finish well on Sunday with a birdie on the shortened par-5 18th, finishing the weekend on 15 under par, five strokes behind the winner, and tied-fourth, matching her showing in Dromoland in 2022.
