Galway 2-7 Kerry 0-12
Galway claimed their second women’s All Ireland title, their first in 22 years, in dramatic fashion over Kerry on Sunday.
Eva Noone and Leanne Coen were the heroes, with the former getting the winning point and the latter scoring both goals for the Tribeswomen.
There was another goal central to the drama, but it was disallowed for Kerry due to a square-ball infringement after a two-point effort fell short and went in off a Galway player.
The winners’ generally risk-adverse approach paid dividends in a day of high winds and proved enough to deny the Kingdom a 13th title. Overall the game had little of the intensity that made the Mayo/Kerry men’s final the previous Sunday a memorable classic.
Galway now add the All Ireland title to their National League Div. 1 and Connacht titles in an excellent season for them.
More success for the West in the intermediate final, with Roscommon having too much power for Fermanagh, while it was much closer in the junior final, with Antrim prevailing by the narrowest of margins. See results below.
