Ernie O'Malley's in Manhattan will be the setting on Saturday, August 22 for a talk and fundraiser in aid of a memorial to the 1876 Catalpa rescue in Dublin's Glasnevin Cemetery.
Dr. Ruan O'Donnell of the University of Limerick and George McLaughlin of the Fenian Memorial Committee of America will be the main speakers.
Music will be by Marty Healy in an event being organized by the New York 1916 Commemoration Committee to mark the 150th anniversary of the Catalpa's daring rescue of Fenian prisoners in a British prison in Australia.
There will be a raffle with commemorative bodhrans for winners and all proceeds will go to the National Graves Association and the Fenian Memorial Committee of America's efforts to erect a national Catalpa memorial in Glasnevin.
The unveiling of the monument is set for September 19.
A suggested charge of $20 will apply to the Saturday gathering. Ernie O'Malley's is at 140 East 27th Street between Lexington and Third Avenues
