On the heels of a dramatic FIFA World Cup, Lansdowne Yonkers seek their own glory as they fly out to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in search of a third USASA National Amateur Cup this weekend.
USASA national champions in 2017 and 2021, the Bhoys play the Tar Devils SC from North Carolina in Saturday’s first semi-final, 10 a.m. at Uihlein Soccer Park. In the second semi-final at 4 p.m. at the same venue, Chicago House AC out of Illinois takes on California’s El Farolito. The two winners on the day meet in the 2026 USASA final at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
“In January, when we returned from winter break, we discussed about putting Lansdowne on the national stage once again,” Lansdowne head coach Matt Kane told the Echo. “We are determined to do everything to bring success this weekend in Milwaukee.”
Kane’s squad for the national title bid comprises: Luis Granados, Dwayne Brown [goalkeepers]; Johnny Antolino, Nico Macri, Bala Danso, Luis Puchol, Eddie Speed, Sean Doran, Cillian Heaney, and Ethan Furphy [defenders]. Ethan Homler, Seamas Keogh, Marco Charnas, Henry Hamilton, Gabriel Duchovony [midfielders]; and Niko Vidal, Danu Bishop, Ali Dawa, Harry Sankey, Brandon Bermingham and Liam Salmon [strikers].
Lansdowne reached the USASA final four after trouncing Los Toros FC 3-0 at the Ukrainian American Sports Center in Horsham, Pennsylvania, last month to clinch the USASA Region I title. Danú Kinsella Bishop, Seamus Keogh and Miguel Espinosa were the scorers.
The Bhoys, who are managed by William McGrory, have a strong record in national cup competitions. They posted wins over professional teams in the U.S. Open Cup in 2016, were crowned National Amateur Champions in 2017 and 2021; and lifted the National Fricker Cup in 2017, 2019, and 2021.
Lansdowne is the most successful Irish club States-side.
