Shefflin is Cats' new boss

It’s official! Henry Shefflin is the new manager of the Kilkenny senior hurling team. The county board appointed him after a meeting on Monday evening.

Shefflin, who won a record 10 All-Irelands as a player, has been serving as the county's Under-20 manager.

The move comes after Derek Lyng's departure and an underwhelming season for Kilkenny — in which they disappointed in Leinster and failed to secure a quarterfinal spot in the All Ireland championship.

Shefflin was the manager of Galway for the three years through the end of the 2024 season and guided his club Ballyhale Shamrocks to All-Ireland titles in 2019 and 2020.

Shefflin retired from Kilkenny in 2014, after a 15-year senior career, which coincided with the managerial reign of Brian Cody (1998-2022), considered the most successful in hurling's history,

"On behalf of Kilkenny GAA, I am delighted to welcome Henry Shefflin as our Senior Hurling Manager," Kilkenny GAA chairperson PJ Kenny said.

"Henry has an outstanding record of achievement and leadership, and we are confident he will bring tremendous experience, ambition and professionalism to the role.

"I would also like to acknowledge and thank every candidate who put themselves forward. The calibre of applicants reflected the esteem in which Kilkenny hurling is held, and we were struck throughout the process by the commitment each candidate demonstrated to serving Kilkenny GAA. "We wish Henry every success as he takes up this important role."
