Jordan Arrest in Killarney Murder Probe

A man believed to be the boyfriend of the murdered mother-of-one and New York native Jamey Carney has been arrested in Jordan.

Multiple reports say the man, understood to be Ahmad Al-Saqar, 28, was arrested by Jordan’s Public Security Directorate.

According to the Irish Examiner he has been detained by Jordanian authorities and was not arrested on the foot of an Irish arrest warrant, a garda source said.

Mr Al-Saqar, 28, fled Ireland in the hours after Ms. Carney - who was from Westchester County in New York - was brutally murdered in her home off the Muckross Road in Killarney.

He was in a relationship with the 43-year-old mother-of-one and had been with her on Monday evening, July 6. Ms. Carney died from asphyxiation.

He flew to Turkey on Tuesday morning and gardaí suspected he had travelled into Jordan or Syria.

Added the Examiner report: Ireland does not have an extradition treaty with Jordan. And extradition requires that a person be charged by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Mr Al-Saqar has not been charged in connection with Ms. Carney’s death. But gardaí are working on the case and may bring a file to the DPP so that a charge can be brought against him.
