Famed Belfast artist in the frame at Big Apple conference

For an artist who began without formal training or connections to the art establishment, the journey from Belfast streets to a major conference in New York represents another notable chapter in the career of Terry Bradley.

Known for his bold portraits and distinctive visual language, Bradley has spent decades building an audience that extends well beyond Northern Ireland. His work, often inspired by the people, culture and character of Belfast, has earned a loyal following among collectors and helped establish him as one of Ireland’s most recognizable contemporary artists.

This week, that reputation brings him to the New York-New Belfast conference in Manhattan.
Bradley’s rise has long defied expectations. Entirely self-taught, he developed his practice outside traditional artistic pathways, relying instead on instinct, observation and an unwavering commitment to his own vision. What followed was a gradual expansion of his audience through personal recommendations and grassroots support rather than institutional endorsement.

That independence remains central to his identity. While many artists seek validation from established circles, Bradley has often focused on creating direct relationships with the public.

The approach has resonated with audiences. Over the years, Bradley’s work has appeared in some of Northern Ireland’s most prominent venues, including Titanic Belfast, helping to cement his status as a cultural figure whose appeal extends beyond the traditional art world.

The artist’s work will be on show and for sale at the New York-New Belfast conference luncheon.
