 Flag Raising Will Salute America 250

Irish America 250 and the Bowling Green Association will be jointly hosting a flag raising ceremony on Monday, February 16, Presidents' Day.

The raising of the U.S. and Irish flags and the singing of anthems will kick off a series of events in New York to mark the contribution of the Irish to the American Republic in this 250th anniversary year.

The event is set for Bowling Green, Broadway and Whitehall Street, at 1 p.m.

Later, Irish America 250 and the American Irish Historical Society will jointly host a gathering at the AIHS, 991 Fifth Avenue, during which the 23 U.S. presidents of Irish heritage will be honored.

Also at this event there will be a first reading of the poem "Irish America 250" by Michael O'Siadhail and a talk on George Washington and the Irish by Niall O'Dowd.
