Sligo light heavyweight Thomas Myers returns to New England next month for a six-round scrap with Mexican Alejandro Fugon at the Great American Beer Hall in Medford, Mass., on Nov. 21.
“I don’t know much about him, only seen a few clips on YouTube and he comes to win,” Myers, a southpaw, told the Echo on Sunday. “[Training] camp is going really well and I’m still based in Sligo training out of Sligo City BC.”
What’s widely known about Fugon is that he has a 4-13-4 [won-lost-draw] record with six of those 13 defeats having come by knockouts. He has, on the other hand, won all his fights by KO and at age 39, is 10 years Myers’s senior.
The Irishman himself is 4-0 [1 KO] and trained by his father - – Thomas, Sr. – who has produced multiple Irish amateur champions and European medal winners. He last fought States-side in March 2025 when he knocked out Tyrone Albert Adams in one round in Boston.
Myers’s last fight was a six-rounds points victory over Patryk Polasik at the Finn Valley Sports Centre in Stranorlar, Co. Donegal.
Myers had a solid amateur career and represented Ireland in Italy England and Denmark.
The COVID pandemic stalled his career, resulting in a five-year stretch hiatus. He turned pro and made his debut in August 2024, defeating 107-fight veteran Harry Matthews via unanimous decision after four rounds in Newcastle, England.
