As a Dub expat living in Chicago for a long time I've long said to our kids: 'I'll take American arrogance over Irish hypocrisy."
The Irish Soccer Israel Palestine thing has been bizarre. Sport and politics shouldn't mix.
So Ireland is outraged by Gaza and what the Israelis are doing. I agree. It's horrific
So too was October 7th which started this. A deafening silence from Ireland, the Irish people, on October 7th.
Ukraine. Ireland doesn't seem as concerned about the slaughter of civilians there by the Russians.
Why? Is Ireland still selling aluminum to Russia which ends up in bombs that kill Ukraine citizens?
What about the brutal genocide and long running wars in other parts of the world? Sudan, Myanmar
Christians in Africa, Uyghurs in China with over one million arrested and sent to "re-education" camps. The silence from Ireland once again is deafening.
Trade. Irish hypocrisy reaches new heights. China is one of Ireland's biggest trading partners. Seriously?
Russia. Still trading withMiddle East: Iran/Iraq/Saudi/Qatar/Kuwait - the list goes on. Countries with brutal records against their own people - particularly women and girls.
We play cricket against Afghanistan, field hockey, men and women, against India and Pakistan. Are readers aware of what they do to their girls/young women?

And why the rationale for the Palestine indignation. Surely it's not as weak as '"We were oppressed by colonialists like they are." Everyone bleeds red.
Suffice it to say I'm ashamed of my beloved country for its sanctimonious/preachy/selective moral high ground. The answer. If Ireland can make money, morals go out the window. And we seem to want to continue to wallow in a state of victimhood
Ireland might be better off saving its outrage for the Tuam Babies, Magdalene Laundries, drug gangs, gangs, guns/murders in Ireland, tourists beaten up, housing unaffordable for young people, polluting data centers, the environment etc.
