A teenager has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of Tipperary native Shaun Brady in Kansas City, Missouri.
The plea was entered during a hearing last week in the juvenile Family Court Division of Jackson County Circuit Court, this according to Scott Lauck, a spokesman for the 16th Judicial District.
According to a report in the Kansas City Star, voluntary manslaughter is a class B felony.
The report stated: "The juvenile, identified in court by his initials K.H., has now had his case adjudicated within the juvenile justice system and there are no further hearings on the case, Lauck said.
And it added in part: "The terms of the sentence handed down to K.H. were not available. Most juvenile sentences are not public record in Missouri. Brady was fatally shot Aug. 28, 2024 during a confrontation with a group while he was taking out trash at his Irish restaurant he co-owned in Kansas City’s Brookside neighborhood.
"Kansas City’s restaurant community was reeling after his death, and the community showed an outpouring of support through monetary donations that went on to support Brady’s grieving family.
"Business owners in the area said Brady’s death reflected rising crime involving vehicles and property in east Brookside last year. Several businesses told The Star last year that they suffered frequent break ins.
"K.H. and another teen were arrested shortly after the shooting. In December, charges were dropped against the other teen, identified in court as L.M. L.M. was released after spending three months in juvenile custody.
"An attorney for L.M. at the time said officials rushed to hold someone accountable for the shooting and mistakenly charged L.M. K.H. was initially charged with second degree murder, attempted stealing of a vehicle and armed criminal action. A judge had ordered in May that K.H. would not face trial as an adult."
The Irish community in Kansas City and the city's Irish Fest rallied behind the Brady family after the shooting. Shaun left behind a wife and two young children.
