Nathan Kelly suffered a setback on his MMA return with a second round technical submission loss to French-Canadian Fred Dupras at the 2025 Professional Fighters League [PFL] World Tournament Finals in Atlantic City last Friday.
The Dubliner was left momentarily unconscious at 4:38 of the round when Dupras executed a guillotine choke at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.
Both men were standing when Kelly was caught in the move. They fell to the canvas with Dupras, on his back, tightly squeezing Kelly’s neck with his legs wrapped around his torso. Kelly was motionless when the referee ended the contest, scheduled for five five-minute rounds.
With the defeat, Kelly, a member of SBG Ireland under the direction of John Kavanagh, saw his record drop to 11-5 after his third straight loss. Dupras is now 9-2.
The bout was broadcast live globally via ESPN+, ESPN, and the DAZN sports streaming service.
THOMAS MYERS
Sligo’s Thomas Myers is headed back to Boston next month for a scheduled six-rounder in the light heavyweight division at Memorial Hall, Melrose, in the greater Boston metropolitan area on Sept. 20. His opponent will be announced later.
Myers was victorious on his U.S. debut last March, halting American Tyrone Albert Adams in the first round at Boston Harley-Davidson in Revere, Massachusetts.
The former Irish youth champion was tapped to fight in New York City in June but a shoulder injury sidelined him.
“I hurt my [left] shoulder in sparring and I had to pull out of that show. But I’m back now injury free,” Myers told the Echo from Sligo.
Trained by his dad, Thomas Myers, Sr. at Sligo City Boxing Club, he travels around Ireland sparring with other professionals, Elite champions, and Irish League champions.
After his September outing, Myers is hoping to squeeze in another fight or two before the end of the year, “then, hopefully, some domestic fights or a Celtic title maybe later next year, [followed] by an Irish title.”
Ticket information for Myers' Sept. 20 Melrose fight is available from Kevin Dever Sports Management on Facebook.
