A Greener Hollywood

Pic of Day: The Hollywood sign above the tiny village of Hollywood in County Wicklow expresses the villagers' claim that it is the original Hollywood from which the Los Angeles version took its name. It is believed that local man Matthew Guirke moved to the U.S. in 1850 and gave the name of his home town to what is now known as Hollywood in the hills above Los Angeles. Guirk'es home in Wicklow became a post office and in 2018 became an award winning café at the foot of the Wicklow Gap. Photo by Eamonn Farrell/ RollingNews.ie.
