Slane Castle's Henry Mount Charles Dead at 74

Photo of the Day: Lord Henry Mount Charles has died at the age of 74. The cause of death was cancer. Mount Charles put Ireland on the world map for outdoor rock concerts at his home, Slane Castle in County Meath. He is pictured here in a 2002 RollingNews.ie file photo celebrating 21 years of concerts at Slane. Some of the early years acts to appear at Slane in the 1980s included the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan. President Michael D. Higgins, in a tribute, said in part: "Lord Henry’s contribution was quite unique and a very important turning point in live music in Ireland when he decided to begin using the natural amphitheatre at Slane Castle as a venue at which public performances could be held by some of the most contemporary makers of music."
