The New York Saint Patrick's Day Parade has undergone changes in its board membership following a meeting Monday.
Four members of the Board of Directors were voted off the body in a move intended to ultimately slim down the parade's controlling entity.
Three of the four were Frank McGreal, Brendan Lynch and Eileen Barker.
Tom Tuffy will now fill the post of parade COO following the recent retirement of the long serving Hilary Beirne.
Tuffy's elevation was approved unanimously, according to Parade Board Chairman Sean Lane.
"Tom's main assignment will involve the line of march. You need to know the community and he does," said Lane.
Lane said that a decision was made, in what was a virtual meeting, to downsize the board, this on the basis of a best practices recommendation in a report commissioned by the parade.
The report recommended a reduced board totaling eleven members.
The removal of four board members was no reflection upon them as individuals, Lane stressed.
"We thanked them for their service," he said.
Lane indicated that the board would be moving to appoint someone to run the Parade Foundation, the parade's main fundraising arm.
Hilary Beirne had headed the Foundation before taking his leave of the parade organization in April.
