Lord Mayor and Comptroller discuss transatlantic co-operation

The recently-installed Lord Mayor of Belfast Tracy Kelly, was in the Big Apple On Thursday, June 12 to address the 16th annual New York-New Belfast conference.

On hand to greet her for what Lord Mayor Kelly said was her second visit to New York was State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli who has made repeated investments in Northern Ireland start-ups in order to boost the peace process.

In her comments, Mayor Kelly also revealed that her first visit to New York was three years ago with her daughter, the aptly-named Brooklyn. And, yes, mum and daughter did walk the famous bridge.

A sell-out, 200-strong audience attended the 16th annual New York-New Belfast summit which aims to boost bonds of commerce, culture and community between the two cities.

Other speakers at the conference, held at the New York Athletic Club and which is sponsored by KMPG, included Mike Stamatis, CEO of Red Hook Terminal and Bernie McGuire of venture fund 57 Stars in Washington, D.C. which selects and manages investments in North of Ireland early-stage companies for the Comptroller.
