Men Questioned Over Kerry Farmer Death

A man in his fifties is being questioned on suspicion of murdering Kerry farmer Michael Gaine.

The 56-year-old has been missing from his Kenmare farm for eight weeks. It was confirmed on Saturday that partial human remains have been found at his farm near the scenic Moll's Gap.

Gardaí are continuing to carry out searches of the farm while the Garda Dog Unit are also involved. The Defence Forces are also combing the area.

It comes after the discovery of materials while slurry was being spread on Friday which led to the re-examining of the surrounding area.

Michael Gaine, who also goes by Mike, was last seen in Kenmare town shortly after 10 a.m .on March 20 where he bought phone credit in a Centra store.

Two weeks ago gardaí confirmed that they were satisfied that Mr. Gaine was dead and began a homicide investigation.

On Saturday a Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí at Killarney Garda Station continue to investigate the disappearance and homicide of Michael Gaine (56), who was reported missing from his home near Kenmare, Co Kerry, on Friday, March 21, 2025.

"As part of the investigation, operations resumed at lands in Carrig East, Kenmare, Co. Kerry on Friday evening and a crime scene has now been declared.

"The Garda Technical Bureau and the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested to attend the scene.

"Pending examinations by both the Garda Technical Bureau and the State Pathologist, An Garda Síochána is not in a position to provide further information at this time.

"The investigation is ongoing and further updates will follow.”
