Casey for Freeport talk on May 17

The Irish Family History Forum has announced that Dr. Marion R. Casey will be speaking on "Transforming the Irish Image" at its Saturday morning, May 17, meeting at the Freeport Public Library.

Dr. Casey, the author most recently of "The Green Space," will examine the factors that contributed to remaking the image of the Irish from that of a downtrodden, despised people in the mid-19th century to one universally acclaimed just 100 years later.

Dr. Casey is a Clinical Professor of Irish Studies at Glucksman Ireland House, as well as an affiliated faculty member in the History Department at New York University. She is also a co-editor of "Making the Irish American: History and Heritage of the Irish in the United States."

IFHF said in a statement, "Come early for coffee with fellow genealogists at our 10 a.m. Meet & Greet, or a free genealogy consultation at our “Ask the Experts”  session. Dr. Casey’s presentation will begin at 11:00 a.m. All are welcome!"
