Irish set up Sunday decider

The Republic of Ireland beat Portugal at the Aviva Stadium Thursday evening to set up a qualification decider against Hungary in Budapest on Sunday. Troy Parrott got both goals in the first half (the 17th and 45th minutes), while Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off in the 61st minute for an elbow offense.

The Hungarians beat Armenia 1-0 earlier in the evening and only need a draw from Sunday’s fixture to get a playoff game for the 2026 FIFA World Cup hosted by Canada, Mexico and the USA, whereas the Republic need a win.
