AIHS Denies Sale Move

In a statement the board said: "Contrary to recent reports, the Board of the American Irish Historical Society has no intention of selling 991 Fifth Avenue, and no steps have been taken to place the building on the market.

"We have a fiduciary responsibility to protect the Society and its assets, and we will always act in the best interests of the AIHS. For over 85 years, 991 Fifth Avenue has been the home of the Society, and we expect it will remain so for many years to come."

The statement went on to list what the board says are its duties and current undertakings.

"This year, the Board has worked diligently to make the revitalization of the Society a success. Our primary focus has been preserving our collections for future generations, and we have engaged a professional team to ensure this work is carried out properly. In addition, we have undertaken a number of initiatives, including improvements to building security and technology, hiring an administrator and bookkeeper, hosting a golf fundraiser and Gala Dinner, and generating rental income.

"We continue to host a variety of free public events and tours, and we are grateful for the support of the Irish Consulate, donors including The Ireland Funds, our academic partners, members, and friends. We invite you to visit 991 Fifth Avenue and learn more about the Society."

TH statement concludes with "Happy Thanksgiving."
