Yonkers win back-to-back games

Lansdowne Yonkers reeled off back-to-back wins in the American Premier Soccer League to stay joint first in the APSL’s 12-club Metropolitan Conference four weeks into the new season.

After seeing off old Greek rivals Doxa FC 2-1 at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers last Thursday, a four-goal outburst by striker Ali Dawha scripted a 6-3 rout of Central Park Rangers at Jack McManus Field on Roosevelt Island on Sunday. Left winger Liam Salmon bagged a brace.

Salmon had been on target three days earlier against Doxa, when he’d converted a Jared Juleau assist. This, after Juleau had converted a chance created by  Nicolas Macri Badessich.

“Really tough game [against] a hard early season opponent,” Lansdowne coach Matt Kane said after decisioning Doxa. “[It] was an important win and shows that we have levels we need to get to.”

The two wins upped the Bhoys’ record to 3-0-1 [win-loss-draw] with 10 points. That’s level with joint leaders Hoboken FC 1912.

The semi-pro APSL is the fourth tier of the U.S. soccer pyramid. It’s behind MLS; USL; and the combination of USL1, NISA and MLS Next Pro; in that order.

Also, APSL is the only U.S. league that allows promotion and relegation from other leagues.
