President Micheal D. Higgins has returned to Áras an Uachtaráin following a brief treatment for an infection.
The president spent two nights in hospital
Said a statement from Áras an Uachtaráin: President Higgins travelled to St. James Hospital by arrangement on Sunday in order to have the localised infection examined. The President subsequently received a course of antibiotics which have successfully treated the issue.
President Higgins would like to express his thanks to the medical staff who treated him, and to all those members of the public who sent their best wishes to him over the course of his brief stay in hospital.
Áras an Uachtaráin in Dublin's Phoenix Park will be the president's official residence until November 10. His successor Catherine Connolly will be inaugurated the next day.
