The County Cork Association of New York has expressed its sadness at the passing of esteemed seventy three year member and past officer, Patricia Young O'Connor.
Stated a release from the association: "Patricia died peacefully at her home in Rockaway on Tuesday, March 21, she was 95 years old. Patricia was one of fourteen siblings born and raised in Dunmanway, Co. Cork. Soon after arriving in NY, Patricia joined the Cork Ladies Auxiliary Association and held many offices including President (1960-63). In 1983 the Cork Ladies Auxiliary merged with the Men's Association and Patricia was elected to the Office of Recording Secretary, an office she held for 17 years. She was also a delegate to the United Irish Counties Association. Patricia attended every event hosted by the Co. Cork Association until her failing health prevented her from doing so. She was honored as the 2007 Cork Woman of the Year as well as a 50, 60 and 70th year member. She was a gracious and beautiful lady, dedicated member, proud Cork Woman and a great ambassador for the Rebel County. She will be sorely missed by her many friends in the Association and in the Irish American community. We offer our condolences to her son Brendan, daughters in law Mona and Bess, grandsons Michael and Denis and her extended family in the US and Ireland. Patricia was predeceased by her husband Denis, daughter Myra and son Liam with whom she is now joyfully reunited."
Members will assemble to pay their respects to Patricia on Friday, March 24 at 6:30pm at: Denis O'Connor Funeral Home
