A Jesuit president-elect

Pic of Day: Limerick City-born, Dublin-based the Rev. Michael O’Sullivan S.J. was photographed last month in New York on his way to the Denver conference of the global Society for the Study of Christian Spirituality, at which he was confirmed as vice-president and president-elect. He will assume the top job after its conference next year in San Antonio, and will become then the first Jesuit to hold the position and only the third European in its more than 30 years of existence. O’Sullivan was interviewed in the Irish Echo in 2017 about his work in the growing field of spirituality and his life story, which includes activism on the behalf of the poor in Chile during Pinochet’s dictatorship in the 1980s.
