Aer Lingus is also gearing up to further expand connections between the U.S. and Europe with flights from Orlando, Florida to Manchester, UK commencing on 11th December, said a release.

The two new routes are part of the airline’s "ambitious schedule plans for 2022."

Reid Moody, Aer Lingus Chief Strategy and Planning Officer, said: “Today marks a very important day for Aer Lingus, as we launch our first direct flights between the United States and the UK as we recover and expand our transatlantic network.

“It also marks another momentous moment for our new services from Manchester direct to the U.S., with flights to Orlando set to depart on their inaugural service on 11th December.

“The launch of this service provides our customers with even more choice with Aer Lingus set to operate four daily flights from New York, JFK next summer.”

Added the release: "From 3rd December, passengers flying Aer Lingus from JFK to Manchester will experience the new Airbus A321LR single aisle aircraft.

"The new state-of-the-art aircraft promises a more innovative and sustainable travel experience, boasting greater fuel-efficiency, with a 15% reduction in fuel burn, compared to a A321CEO and a 50% reduction in noise footprint compared to previous generation aircraft.

"Offering both Business Class cabin with 16 fully lie-flat seats, fine dining and complimentary wi-fi, and Economy Class cabin with complimentary meal and snack and soft drink in-flight, and top inflight entertainment, including the latest movie releases, TV boxsets, games and music."

In February, 2020, Aer Lingus hosted a reception in New York to announce a significant expansion of services from North America to Ireland. Days later, the Covid lockdown put those plans on ice.

Now they have returned with the addition of the new routes from the U.S. to one of England's principle cities.
