Rep. Brendan Boyle is Hibernian JFK Medal recipient

Congressman Brendan Boyle, who has emerged boldly into the front rank of Irish American political leaders in recent years, is the recipient of the Ancient Order of Hibernians John F. Kennedy Medal for 2020.

The medal is the highest honor that the Hibernians bestow and the awarding to the Philadelphia-based member of the House of Representatives was first reported in the Hibernian National Digest.

Congressman Boye, 43, is a Democrat representing Pennsylvania’s 2nd District.

In paying tribute to Boyle, AOH National President, Judge James McKay, focused in particular on Boyle’s work in relation to Brexit, his securing of support for the International Fund for Ireland, his addressing of legacy issues in Northern Ireland, and his dedication to honoring and commemorating the 1916 Rising.

Congressman Boyle is the only member of the House of Representatives with an Irish immigrant parent, his father, Francis, being from County Donegal. He has Sligo roots on his mother’s side. Boyle is married and the father of a daughter.

“Brendan is a true leader who recognizes the role Irish America played in building our country, and the importance of the special relationship shared by the United States and Ireland,” said Judge McKay of the JFK Medal recipient.
