Liverpool FC was written on the European Champions League trophy in Madrid on Saturday and the staff of the Shannon Pot celebrated both that and their new permanent address in Long Island City – 10-50 44th Drive, which is at the corner of 11th Street. The Irish bar was since the last century through 2014 beside the first overground No. 7 train stop in Queens at Court Square, but had to leave, becoming victim to the frenetic building of high rises in the neighborhood.
The bar found a new temporary spot a couple of blocks north along the tracks, but another new multi-story development was planned there and it closed more than a year ago. In mid-May the bar, which is named for the spot where it's said the River Shannon rises, finally reopened two blocks to the west, and is now nearer the E subway entrance than the 7.
In any event, all were pleased to see manager Jurgen Klopp’s men take a sixth European Cup, after a gap of 14 years since the Reds' fifth. Mo Salah slotted home a 2nd-minute penalty against Tottenham and Divock Origi sealed the win with an 87th-minute strike. PHOTO BY PETER MCDERMOTT
