It was manager Mick McCarthy’s first home win during this his second stint as manager. The Irish won by 1-0 in Gibraltar on Saturday, and so have six points at the top of the group, with a lead over Switzerland (4 points after two games) and Denmark (3 after 1). Michael O’Neill’s Northern Ireland have also started their campaign with two wins in Group C in Belfast – 2-0 vs. Estonia and 2-1 vs. Belarus, and lead over Germany (3 points after one game) and the Netherlands (3 after two).
