Blowing its stack for 21 years
The Soufriere Hills Volcano on the Caribbean island of Montserrat began its current eruption phase 21 years ago this week. Montserrat has a proud Irish heritage and is known as the Emerald Isle of the Caribbean. Visitors have shamrocks stamped on their passports. The volcano has turned half the island into an uninhabited exclusion zone, but the eruption has been showing signs of abating in most recent years.
