Before Oscar came Wilde

Sunday’s Oscars were a big night for the Irish, but before the awards came the big Irish night. J. J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions Company in Santa Monica was the setting for the US-Ireland’s Alliance’s 11th annual Oscar Wilde Awards. The honorees included Irish actress Sarah Greene, North band Snow Patrol, Star Wars Daisy Ridley, who enjoys Irish ancestry, Ireland’s Oscar-nominated director, Lenny Abrahamson, and comedian James Corden who was this year’s “honorary” Irishman. Roisin O performed and Corden joined Snow Patrol onstage to sing their hit song, “Set The Fire To The Third Bar.” At the subsequent academy Awards, Brie Larson won Best Actress for “Room,” directed by Dublin-born Abrahamson and based on the novel and screenplay by Emma Donoghue.
