Richie O’Shea, one of the most popular singers on the Irish American music scene in recent decades, has died.

He was 73.

“I just found out that we just lost a great Icon on the Irish American scene for the last fifty years, Richie O'Shea. He was one of my greatest supporters when I was starting out right through to where I am today. He brought joy to so many,” singer Andy Cooney wrote on facebook upon hearing of O’Shea’s passing.

O'Shea was born in Brooklyn to Irish immigrant parents from Cork.

His career spanned many years, both as a solo artist and band leader.

For many years he was a starring member of the Paddy Noonan Show.

A wake will take place Tuesday, January 12 and Wednesday, January 13, 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Thomas Dalton Funeral home, 125 Hillside Avenue, New Hyde Park on Long Island.

The funeral will take place on Thursday morning, January 14, following 9.30 a.m. Mass at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park.
