The death occurred in Bishopstown in Cork at the weekend of former Kerry footballer John Egan, at age 59. Egan, who was from Sneem, was a member of the Kerry senior team from 1973 to 1984 and won six All-Ireland senior medals (including the four in row from 1978), nine Munster titles and five All-Star awards. A corner forward with an eye for goal, Egan was regarded as one the most under rated members of the Kerry team of the 1970s and ‘80s. His son John plays soccer in England and has represented the Republic of Ireland at under-19 level.
