Shamrock streak continues with 9-2 win

Onder Koksol got the requisite hat trick and there was a brace for Karl Hughes as Shamrock's indomitable Over-30s smashed Guyana Veterans 'A' 9-2 on Randalls Island last Sunday.

Only 11 members of the Rocks' 20-man panel reported for the 8 a.m. game, but with Koksol & Co. firing on all cylinders, that's all coach Paddy McCarry needed to extend his unbeaten streak to 21 matches.

"A walk in the park," McCarry described the rout, which brought his side's two-match haul to 14 goals. "They couldn't handle Karl and Onder upfront."

Back in the side after missing the 5-2 drubbing of Barntonworth Rovers the previous week, Koskol struck after five minutes. His other goals came in the 40th and 65th minutes.

Hughes forced an own goal to make it 4-1 [41st] then connected twice in the second half [72nd, 81st].

Eugene Reynolds [20th]; Eugene Gormley with what McCarry termed a "thunder of a shot" [55th] and Mike Bishop [75th] got the other goals in the Over-30 Div. One fixture.

"Very happy, I can't complain," McCarry summed up his team's performance.

He wasn't concerned either by his missing players, saying they'd given advance notice to attend to various commitments.

FRIEL FACTOR

Austin Friel made it five goals in three matches with Lansdowne Bhoys' opener [30th] in a 2-0 decision over United FC at Brooklyn's Aviator Sports Complex.

Kevin Mira [60th] sealed Lansdowne's second straight win in the Cosmopolitan Soccer League top flight following a goalless tie in the reserve tussle.

"We played well, a really disciplined performance," said coach Kevin Grogan.

O'DRISCOLL TREY

Brian O'Driscoll returned from his honeymoon in top form, notching a superb hat trick in Barnstonworth Old Boys' first win of the season. They beat BW Gottschee Cosmos 4-3 in Over-30 Div. II.

"His first was an audacious lob from 30 yards," said Dave Sheeran.

Jeff Alexander was the other Rovers marksman on Randalls Island.
