Great Irish Fair this weekend

The Great Irish Fair will be marking a milestone this weekend when it celebrates 30 years of celebrating Irish heritage in its familiar Coney Island location.

The fair will span three days, Friday to Sunday Sept. 16-18 and as is the case each year a large number of people who have distinguished themselves in the Irish American community will be honored.

This year's Chief Brehon is William Hogan while the Colleen Queen will be Elizabeth Flood. The annual Paul O'Dwyer Award will go to John Nolan while the Father Mychal Judge Memorial Award will be presented to Rev. Peter Rayder.

The Edward Byrne Memorial Award will go to Sergeant Brian Coughlan with the Thomas More Award going to Judge Kevin McGrath Jr.

The Kathleen Slattery Woman of the Year Award will be presented to Katy Gallagher while the Captain Timothy Stackpole Memorial Award will go to Captain Liam Flaherty. The Thomas Cuite Memorial Award will be given to John Donahue with the Irish Man of the Year Award going to James A. Jennings III. The Celtic Cross Award goes to Dympna Bowles.
