GOP Irish back Turner

The Irish American Republicans are backing Bob Turner for election to the U.S. Congress in the upcoming special election in New York's Ninth district, which was caused by the resignation of Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner.

The vote is set for next Tuesday, Sept. 13.

"The Irish American Republicans are calling upon all Americans to support Bob Turner for Congress. Bob Turner will fight for lower taxes, cut wasteful government spending, and work to restore fiscal sanity in the U.S. Congress," said Grant Lally, national co-chair of the Irish American Republicans, in a statement.

"Bob Turner is a true friend of Ireland," said Lally.

"This election is too important for the future of our country. We need Bob Turner in the United States Congress" added Jeffrey Cleary, also a national IAR co-chair.

The IAR has also endorsed Jane Deacy in the New York State Assembly election for the 23rd district, Paul Niehaus for the 73rd district and John Murtagh in the Yonkers mayoral race.
