Lansdowne denied full points by late leveler

Lansdowne Bhoys let slip a second-half lead to tie 1-1 with Polonia at McCarren Park last Sunday. But with New York Athletic Club also dropping points against Central Park Rangers there was no change atop the Cosmopolitan Soccer League First Division [East] standings where both NYAC and Lansdowne have 11 points.

The Bhoys were denied full points in Brooklyn by a late Polonia leveler that canceled out Jean Pierre's 55th minute goal.

"Very disappointing that we didn't get three points," rued Aiden Corr. "We should have beat them. They were good defensively but had nothing to offer upfront."

Corr suited up for the Lansdowne reserves in a 2-0 defeat. "We were the much better team in the first half but fell apart in the second," he commented.

CELTIC TREBLE

Manhattan Celtic picked up two wins in 48 hours to cap a glorious weekend.

Their first victory was on Friday night on their US Amateur Open Cup debut. The Flamhaft Cup holders dispatched New York Olympiacos of the Long Island Soccer Football League 3-1. Charlie Grover, Cherif Moktafi and Barrie Taylor scored.

A last minute call up, it was Taylor's fifth goal in four matches.

On Sunday, Celtic stunned CSL Second Division leaders Hoboken FC 3-0 at Overpeck Park in New Jersey.

Tommy McMenemy [penalty], Dinney and Moktafi connected after goalie Ed Shone had saved a penalty.

The result completed a clean sweep for the Celts after a 1-0 decision by their reserves, courtesy of new Australian signing James St. Clair and Tony Semar's clean sheet.

ROCKY TIMES

After going 21 games without defeat in the league, Shamrock's Over-30s have now lost two of their last three games. Paddy McCarry's crew crashed 4-1 to Pele Masters at Kaiser Park.

Onder Koksol [60th] got the Rocks' face-saver.

"We were absolutely brutal. Overall, the worst game I've ever witnessed as a manager," spat McCarry. "We were missing four or five players but that's no excuse. [Pele] were better than us."

McCarry had not tasted defeat in the league until three weeks ago when Shamrock succumbed 4-2 to Over-30 Div. I title rivals Dinamo.

The Queens side bounced back the following week, edging Tesoro Kings 3-2 before this latest setback.

Shamrock's first team, meanwhile, lost its sixth straight match, 4-1 to New York Ukrainians in a clash between two winless sides in the Second Division.

Andy Horan [25th] drew first blood before the Ukrainians, whose reserves lost 2-0, scored four times.
