Anthony Tohill, the Irish International Rules manager, has been subjected to much criticism for putting Gaelic footballers in the awkward position of choosing between club and country.

Already Kerry's Darran O'Sullivan and the Brogan brothers, Alan and Bernard, have had to pull out of the trip to Australia, but captain Stephen Cluxton did manage to get away, albeit a day late. The Irish squad left Dublin for Australia on Saturday, but goalkeeper Cluxton stayed behind to play for his club Parnells in their Dublin championship quarterfinal defeat to Ballymun Kickhams.
