Skye Quinn

Profession & company: Sailor/Senior Design Coordinator, TIME

How do you celebrate your Irishness? Ireland has become a meaningful part of my family story, shaping my life both offshore and on land.

Name a maritime hero you admire and why?  Sir Robin Knox-Johnston has inspired me not only through his achievements, but through the way he has given back to sailing and made experiences like my Atlantic crossing possible through the Clipper Race. His family roots in Northern Ireland add an Irish connection to someone I’ve long admired, and the fact that he is still so active and engaged in the sport at 87 makes him even more inspiring to me.

What did you learn in your first job which has been useful to you throughout the career? Between sailing and graphic design, I learned how important it is to pay attention to details, stay calm under pressure, and work well with other people. Sailing taught me to adapt quickly when conditions change, and design taught me how to communicate clearly and solve problems creatively.
