Katie Ryan
Where do you live? Astoria, Queens.
Current company and position? Con Edison - Sr Specialist. I work in Cross Commodities and coordinate work between Con Edison and Westchester Municipalities.
First job and what it taught me? My first job was working as cashier at Tibbett’s Brook Park. Working for a Westchester County Park as a teenager taught me patience, responsibility and how to adapt when situations change.
How do you embrace your Irish heritage? I embrace my Irish heritage every day. I am lucky to have been brought up with my grandmother by my side, Rose Hanratty Ryan, who was born and raised in County Louth. I was largely involved in the Irish community growing up through Irish dancing and Irish music competing at different levels. I continue to stay involved through the Con Edison Emerald Society, Participating in yearly St Patrick’s day parades and grand council meetings. On a smaller level I wear my claddagh ring every day to remind myself of my rich Irish heritage.
Something people would be surprised to know about me... I played in a Ceili band and played multiple instruments growing up. I played the tin whistle, the flute, the harp, the piano accordion and the fiddle.
